GRAHAM, TX – Friday, November 20th was a special day at Graham Regional Medical Center (GRMC). The local Ladies Golf Association (LGA) made a donation of $1,191.44 to the Breast Center at GRMC. The Breast Center, in collaboration with Moncrief Cancer Institute and UT Southwestern, provides fully-funded mammograms, biopsies and breast health education to patients who qualify. Nurse Navigator Trish Rogers describes the program as a blessing for the Graham Community.
A representative from the LGA, Jonni Ray, presented the donation to the hospital on Friday. Ray stated, “It is important for our community to know that we have this service in Graham. We have such a large number of our family, friends and neighbors right here in Graham that are battling this (breast cancer) and if they know about the local Breast Health Program, they will know we can help and they aren’t alone.”
In 2015, the Breast Center did 90 mammogram screens and 35 diagnostic tests. Of those 35 diagnostic tests, 3 have been treated for cancer and 3 mastectomies have been performed. During November and December, 25 patients are scheduled for screening and, if necessary, follow-up treatment.
The most important part of your health is understanding the risks and educating yourself on how to be aware of abnormalities. If you would like more information about the Breast Health Program or to schedule an exam, contact Trish Rogers at 940.521.5299.
Moncrief Cancer Institute is located in Fort Worth. Funding for this program is made possible through grants from the Texas Breast and Cervical Cancer Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas and private donations.
